The City of Edmonton, Canada, is creating a Light Rail Transit (LRT) network that will help knit the city even closer. The City’s next expansion phase of the LRT, known as the Valley Line, runs from Mill Woods in southeast Edmonton through the downtown core, with a final destination at Lewis Farms in west Edmonton.
The entire Valley Line route is approximately 274 kilometers in length, but is broken up into two stages. Stage 1 – the Southeast portion of the line – is currently under construction and has 11 at-grade neighborhood stops, an elevated station, a new bridge, a short tunnel and an interchange point.
The Valley Line Southeast LRT is being delivered under a Public-Private Partnership (P3) for an estimated cost of $1.8 billion and is expected to open at the end of 2021. The line will integrate directly into existing communities and represents the biggest single infrastructure investment in Edmonton’s history.
M-BIM Vircon is working with our customer to provide rebar detailing on various structures and bridges on this new corridor. Specifically, our scope so far has included detailing of resilient track work, elevated guideways, portals, abutments, tunnel, bridges (including diaphragms, deck slabs, barrier walls, track plinths, etc.), approaches, support structures, and miscellaneous site work. Given the curved and super-elevated geometry of the track lines, meticulous detailing and checking efforts were required by M-BIM Vircon team. The project construction so far has required many site conditions and priority changes, but M-BIM Vircon team has been able to keep customer on schedule from detailing standpoint.
It is our unique combination of experience, expertise and technology that turns complex data into intelligent and context rich models.
